John Smith’s Stadium Makes £12K Energy Saving

Huddersfield’s John Smith’s Stadium announced some warming news recently when it revealed that a decision to forward purchase its energy has generated savings in the region of £12K in a single month.

The stadium, operated by KSDL, worked with local energy experts at Core Facility Services to develop an energy buying strategy that would protect them from gas price rises.

Managing Director at The John Smith’s Stadium, Gareth Davies, said the decision means they are protected from the impact of the current nationwide gas price rises, reducing their costs by around £12K in one month, with further savings expected throughout the winter.

Gareth said: “Historically we have bought our gas a month in advance but Core worked with us to put a plan in place to buy further in advance so we could protect our budgets.

“After some difficult times during Covid-19 we were keen to protect ourselves from unexpected costs as we look to strengthen our financial resilience.

“Core advised us that the markets were likely to rise but little did we know quite how much prices would go up.

“We are incredibly grateful to Core for their market insight and expert advice which has put us in a strong position for the year ahead.”

Colette Watts, Managing Director at Core Facility Services, which has offices in Huddersfield, Elland and Glasgow, said: “The strategy we put in place earlier this year has protected KSDL from the current rising markets with their gas requirements and prices secured into the first quarter of 2022.

“We are delighted to have been able to provide daily market updates and purchasing options to KSDL and our other clients to help them weather the current energy crisis and protect their bottom line.”
